The Story of Pluwear: A Legacy Built on Love

The Story of Pluwear: A Legacy Built on Love

Some brands are born from market research. Others from a business plan. Pluwear was born from love — and a mystery that took decades to solve.

The P.L.U. Club

In the heart of Harrisburg, PA, a small group of Black women formed a club that would leave a lasting mark on everyone around them. They called themselves the P.L.U. Club — and they wore their sweatshirts with a quiet, knowing pride that drew curiosity from everyone who saw them.

One of those women was my grandmother, Mary (Pete) Knight — a well-known, deeply respected pillar of her community. For years, I tried to crack the code of those three letters. What did P.L.U. stand for? Every time I asked, the women would just chuckle amongst themselves and say, "It's not that hard to figure out."

But it was. At least for a long time.

A Mystery That Outlasted Time

Years passed. The club's bond began to fade — not by choice, but by the natural weight of aging and illness. One by one, those remarkable women left this world, until only two remained: my grams and her last best friend.

In one of my final conversations with my grams' best friend, I asked her one more time about those letters. She looked at me and said, "You really want to know after all these years?"

"Yeah," I said.

She smiled and said: "It's really simple. People Love Us."

I was speechless. After all that time, the answer was right there — simple, powerful, and true. It wasn't just a club name. It was a declaration. A way of moving through the world with love so strong that people couldn't help but feel it.

Carrying the Legacy Forward

I told my grams that I loved that concept — that one day, I was going to build something around it. A clothing line rooted in that same spirit of love, inclusion, and healing.

Here I am, 40-something years later, with a brand called Pluwear.

She wasn't around to see it. But I know wherever she is, she's smiling — proud that the legacy she helped build didn't die with her. She left me a blueprint without even knowing it. A blueprint for how to heal the world, one person at a time, simply by choosing love.

That's what Pluwear is. It's not just clothing. It's a reminder that love is how we heal — from the inside out. No matter who you are, where you're from, or what you look like.

"Love is love. Everyone is love."

Thanks, Grams. 🫡👑❤️‍🩹🤞🏾
